POSTPONED

Following the advice of state and local health officials, the Newtown Theatre will postpone the Staying Safe workshop originally scheduled for April 6. A new date has not been determined yet.

If you registered for this workshop, please check your inbox. An email has been sent to all participants explaining how we will handle your registration.

Thank you for your continued support of the Newtown Theatre!

This educational workshop and panel discussion, hosted by Potential, Inc. and sponsored by the Newtown Business Association, is open to area first responders, families/individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD) and professionals working with the ASD population.

Clips from BE SAFE: The Movie will be shown to reinforce training. In BE SAFE, actors with autism and other disabilities interact with real police officers, modeling safe words and actions.

The panel discussion will feature Chad Block, president of Eagle Fire Company, and Evan Resnikoff, president of the Bucks County EMS Chiefs' Association.

Through this workshop, Potential’s education team will:

  • Give you strategies/resources on teaching individuals with ASD how to communicate and interact with first responders successfully and safely

  • Empower first responders with an understanding of ASD and offer communication strategies for engaging with an ASD individual successfully and safely

  • Discuss what is currently being done to prepare individuals with ASD for a more successful interaction with first responders
