In 1969, The Beatles played an unannounced concert on the rooftop of their Apple Corps headquarters in London. The historic Newtown Theatre will create a similar experience with a free 30-minute “concert on the porch” on Sunday, July 10 at 6:30 PM.
During the concert, North State Street in front of the theatre will be temporarily closed to traffic and local band The Limit will play a variety of Beatles’ songs – all in the open air on the theatre’s porch. The public is invited to attend.
Following the concert, the theatre will screen “A Hard Day’s Night” at 7:30 PM, which marked The Beatles’ feature film debut.
The movie is part of the theatre’s Harris Comfort Classic Movie Series.
Tickets are required only for the film screening.
Tickets for the movie are $10 for the public and free for theatre members. They can also be purchased at the box office before the movie starts.
About the Film
Shot in a mock-documentary style, A Hard Day’s Night portrays 36 hours in the lives of John, Paul, George, and Ringo as they prepare for a television performance. The film is credited as being one of the most influential musical films of all time, inspiring spy films, the Monkees' television show and music videos, and various other musical films.
