Celebrating Earth Day with a screening of "2040"

  • The Newtown Theatre 120 North State Street Newtown, PA 18940 (map)

An Evening of Education and Inspiration

In celebration of Earth Day, the historic Newtown Theatre is partnering with local environmental groups to present a special movie screening and informational discussion on Tuesday, April 23 at 7:30 PM.

The night will include a screening of “2040,” an Australian documentary that follows director Damon Gameau’s imaging of a future for his four-year-old daughter Velvet, where climate change has been solved.

Described as “an exercise in fact-based dreaming,” the film is structured as a letter to his daughter whereby Gameau travels around the world investigating numerous solutions that can contribute toward climate mitigation and imagining what a future would be like where they have been implemented at scale.

In choosing what to feature in the film, Gameau restricted it to solutions that are either already available or have a realistic potential to greatly contribute to reversing climate change by the year 2040. The film features interviews with numerous academics, ecological experts and entrepreneurs.

Following the film, members of the Newtown Township and Newtown Borough Environmental Advisory Councils will discuss and answer questions about ways we can all live a more sustainable life.

Online tickets are $12 for adults, $10 for seniors/students, or $6 for members of the theatre. Tickets will also be sold at the door (if available).

All seating is general admission.
