The historic Newtown Theatre will present its next Singer-Songwriters in the Round: The Stories Behind the Songs on Friday, November 17 at 8 PM.
Part concert, part conversation, this special evening will bring together four singer-songwriters to play their songs and share the stories behind them. They’ll discuss origins and arrangements while offering a deeper dive into the songwriting process.
Led by orator Daniel S. Bower, the format will encourage conversation between musicians, giving the audience an opportunity to hear songwriters play their music and riff as if they’re in their own living rooms. This special musical event is inspired by the “guitar pulls” of the legendary Bluebird Café in Nashville.
Singer-songwriters for the evening will include:
Brad Hinton
Brad has been a staple of the Philadelphia folk music scene for more than 15 years. He is a songwriter, producer and performer. You can see him play around town with Hezekiah Jones, The Keystone Breakers, Pocono Jones and the Bear, Hinton, Bower, Jones, War Bonnet, and other collaborations. He also wrote the theme song for the Folk Show on WXPN with Ian Zolitor.
Heather Hurlock
Heather is a founding member of barn rock band Tin Bird Choir, former editor-in-chief of Mindful magazine, and now head of digital programming for WXPN. Known for her enchanting, honest and heartfelt vocals, she’s been writing new songs in her home studio ever since the pandemic and is in the process of turning those demos into her first solo album she describes as “dive bar dream pop.” In the meantime, you can catch her wandering along Chester County streams, stalking sunshine.
Greg Sover
Known for his unique personality, guitar playing, incredible wordplay, and distinctive voice, Greg describes his music as "Blues and Rock with a dash of everything else, filled with deep meanings." The Brooklyn-born, Philly- raised singer/songwriter guitar ‘slinger was “mesmerized” by the look of the acoustic instrument owned by his father. When his father gifted him with his guitar, the rest was history.
Joe Montone
Joe will share a new collection of personal explorations at this event. He has been writing songs and immersed in music for over half his life. The Doylestown native is also known for setting the stage as a Concert + Experiences Producer behind Puck, Picnics On Pine, Abington Art Center, and his classic country revue, The Holy Heat Thunder Country Show.

HISTORIC RENOVATION FEE
In the summer of 2024, the historic Newtown Theatre will undertake Phase II of its master renovation plan, which includes renovating our balcony and expanding and improving our basement restrooms. To help pay for these exciting upgrades, we have implemented a $2 historic renovation fee on every ticket of $15 or more. This fee is just one part of an overall plan to raise the $600,000 required to make these upgrades. Thank you for supporting your historic hometown theatre!
