The historic Newtown Theatre will present “A Night of Marimba Music” featuring Greg Giannascoli on Thursday, November 9 at 8 PM.
The marimba is a musical instrument in the percussion family that consists of wooden bars that are struck by mallets. Compared to the xylophone, the timbre of the marimba is warmer, deeper, and more resonant.
Giannascoli is a Grammy-nominated marimba and percussion artist who has won several major competitions and has performed as a soloist with orchestras and in recitals throughout North America, Europe and Asia, including performances at Weill Recital Hall at Carnegie Hall, Theatro Juarez in Mexico, and the Glenn Gould Studio in Canada. His performances have also been presented on the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, NPR, and PBS.
Giannascoli’s Newtown concert will be broken into two halves – the music of George Gershwin in the first half and the music of Fritz Kreisler in the second. He will be accompanied by pianist Ron Stabinsky.
Online tickets are $27 per person or $22 for theatre members. Any remaining tickets will be sold for $37 at the door on the night of the show (if available).
All seating is general admission.
HISTORIC RENOVATION FEE
In the summer of 2024, the historic Newtown Theatre will undertake Phase II of its master renovation plan, which includes renovating our balcony and expanding and improving our basement restrooms. To help pay for these exciting upgrades, we have implemented a $2 historic renovation fee on every ticket of $15 or more. This fee is just one part of an overall plan to raise the $600,000 required to make these upgrades. Thank you for supporting your historic hometown theatre!
